Musical Celebration

The 2nd annual “Musical Celebration and Tribute to Nikhil” on May 20, 2013 at the Liberty Middle School, West Orange, NJ was a resounding success with over 300 people in attendance. The celebration opened with Nikhil’s brother, Anay Badlani, dedicating the song “Gypsy Fire” by Dennis Alexander to his recently deceased Piano teacher Ms. Zita Friedland. The host and hostess for the evening were the charming Nerissa Santacruz and the multi-talented Austin Bartola, two eighth graders from Roosevelt Middle School, West Orange, NJ. The celebration and tribute was coordinated by the students from the West Orange school district, right from the stage crew to ushers to managing the sound.

The celebration featured performances by the students and instructors participating in the Music For Nikhil program. Students captivated the audience by performing classical and jazz pieces by renowned artists on flute, trumpet, trombone, tuba, saxophone and guitar. The vocal group sang and danced along to “We’re all in this together” from the High School Musical and “Wide Awake” by Katy Perry with participation by the audience. Nikhil's friends amazed the audience by dancing to Bollywood music. The celebration ended with the entire ensemble performing “Heal the World” a song by Michael Jackson, dedicated to the bereaved families of Sandy Hook Elementary School, Newtown, CT.
